The Algoma Fire & Rescue Department serves the City of Algoma, Town of Ahnapee, north half of the Town of Pierce and the eastern 1/3 of the Town of Lincoln in northeastern Kewaunee County. The Algoma Fire & Rescue Department has a long history dating back to 1874. A year after the Town of Ahnapee, now the City of Algoma, was incorporated as a village the first members were a proud group serving the area with a single hand pumper and a hose cart that was used from 1875-1908.

From the meek start in 1874 the department has grown to a very well equipped and professionally trained Fire and Rescue Department. The department serves about 66 square miles in Northeast Kewaunee County .

The primary service is to the City of Algoma, with "Ready to Serve" contracts with the Town of Ahnapee, Town of Lincoln and the Town of Pierce.

The Town of Ahnapee owns two units that are housed a the Algoma Fire & Rescue Station. The department also serves about 7 miles of DNR Nature Trails and assists the U.S. Coast Guard with fire fighting and water rescue along 9 miles of Lake Michigan shoreline.
