WIS 42 project begins next week in Kewaunee County
Highway closed and detoured during portions of construction
(Algoma) The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) Notheast Region announces WIS 42 construction in Kewaunee County begins Monday, June 29. The culvert and bridge replacement project will take place at various spots on 14-miles of highway between the cities of Kewaunee and Algoma, and Algoma north to the Door/Kewaunee County Ling. The $1.75 million project is schedule to finish in October 2020. Portions of WIS 42 will be closed and detoured during work.
Peters Concrete Company of Green Bay, Wis. is the Prime Contractor.
Project improvements
The 2020 project replaces culvert pipes on WIS 42 at spot locations between Duvall Street in the City of Kewaunee and Feld Street in the City of Algoma, and WIS 42 between Greenfield Avenue in Algoma to the north county line (County X). The project also constructs a new bridge over Three Mile Creek between 9th Road and 10th Road. No work will be conducted in the City of Algoma.
Traffic impacts
Work will be conducted in stages using highway closures, detours and flagging operations. Access to properties in the closure limits will be provided at all times. Please check the WIS 42 project website for specific dates and closure times. All dates are weather dependent.
- June 29, 2020 to July 2, 2020: WIS 42 closed north of Algoma near Roosevelt Road for critical pipe replacement.
- Detour: WIS 54, County D, and County X
- Beginning July 6, 2020: WIS 42 will be closed from County O to County K. Flagging operations will take place from Duvall Street to County O.
- Detour: County O, County E and WIS 54 initially. Once the culvert work from County O to County D is completed, the detour will be modified to follow County D and County K.
- Fall 2020: WIS 42 closed from Greenfield Avenue to Door/Kewaunee County line.
- Detour: WIS 54, County D, and County X
Project benefits
This project will improve drainage along WIS 42. The culvert replacements will ensure that motorists are not affected by roadway issues that occur with failing culverts, such as pavement collapse and standing water on roadway.
2022 project in same location
Resurfacing will take place in 2022 between the north City of Kewaunee limits to the south limits of the City of Algoma (Feld Street), and between the north limits of the City of Algoma to the Door/Kewaunee County line.
